| Coach
Maru Winckelmann.
I've been with AYSO for the past 3
years, since 2005… and the last 2
years I've been coaching a Weston
FC Select Team… Even though 3 years
isn't too much… I'm not new to soccer
or coaching.
Weston became my hometown in 2003
when I moved from New York City with
my then 4 year old daughter… Originally
I'm from Venezuela where "futbol"
(soccer) is a close second to baseball.
My love for the game started very
early… during the 1970's World Cup
in Mexico… Even though I was only
6 years old I remember the craziness
and excitement everywhere… imagine…my
grandfather was the Venezuelan Ambassador
IN Mexico!!! and my family was spending
the summer there!!! Then came 1974's
World Cup and Germany was crowned
champion… Once more a "celebration"
was at hand… but this time… my other
side of the family… where the "WINCKELMANN"
gene came out!!! … By then I was 10
years old and playing soccer for my
school. I continued playing thru high
school when I also became the coach
for my old elementary school. Since
then I haven't stopped loving the
game… and to my fortune AYSO gave
me the opportunity to coach… This
past November I got my FYSA "F" coaching
license and soon I'll be attending
the "E" coaching license course. Other
course Safe Haven.
With all confidence I can say a quote
from Pele that perfectly applies to
myself and to the players:
"Success is no accident. It is hard
work, perseverance, learning, studying,
sacrifice and most of all, love of
what you are doing or learning to
do."
